Another good year is well underway! We’re off to another good year in 2012. We’ve been blessed at Birches with a great staff and great customers. Together we are going along in fine style. First, looking back at last year, like any good homeowner, we did a lot of things to keep up our property. From painting to replacing carpeting, to parking lot and walkway maintenance, and replacing appliances, we did our best to maintain this 12+ year old building. We have a lot of electronic information and control systems here at Birches, and we do our best to keep them up to date and working in tip-top shape. These range from the computers we use for accounting, health records, and other office functions to electronics related to our security and fire detection, alarm, and fire suppression systems.
We worked through almost a day-long power outage last June and learned some things that have helped us plan for the future. Safety continues as a top priority.
Thirty-nine new residents moved into Birches in 2011, including a record four couples. We reversed a trend with the age upon move-in declining slightly.
Many of our 75+ associates attended training programs, and we try to continue to learn new things, some of which are required by our regulators. We made improvements in resident transitions between Birches and hospital and rehab facilities, and we built a new pergola in the Encore garden.
