Nursing homes are not Assisted living communities.

Over the past few decades, these two types of senior living have grown distinctly different. Many think of them as the same. Nursing home is no longer the catch-all term for senior care that it used to be.

An assisted living facility assists with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and medication management.

Skilled nursing facilities offer 24-hour care and medical attention. Staff members are always available to help residents with basic needs and provide higher levels of care than in an assisted living community.

If you are looking for a specific type of facility, you might contact the state agency overseeing assisted living facilities. These agencies often maintain lists of facilities that meet specific standards.
